Bismuth Free Mineral Makeup Q and A
1. Can I use mineral makeup if my skin is dry ? Of
course you can. Mineral makeup has some oil absorbing properties, but
applying moisturizer to your skin about 20 minutes before application
seals your skins moisture barrier.
2. How do I apply mineral eyeshadow pigments ?
Mineral eye shadow pigment application is different from traditional
pressed eye shadow. Pick up a small amount of pigment and work it into
your dome eyeshadow brush by pressing the bristles against a hard
surface, such as the cap of the jar. Then using a “patting” motion,
apply the pigment to your eye lid. This prevents the “fallout” on your
cheeks. If you do get some fallout, use a large fluffy brush to whisk
it off your face. Blend well after application of the pigments, using a
larger fluffy eyeshadow brush
3. Is mineralmakeup so gentle that I can sleep in it?
That’s what some of the larger mineral makeup companies claim. I do not
recommend sleeping in ANY makeup . Your skin needs to breathe. However,
mineral makeup does not clog your pores as liquid or cream based
products . An occasional slip up would not harm your skin, but
cleanser, toner and moisturizer should be used every day.
4. What do I need to apply mineralmakeup properly?
Mineral makeup is applied with brushes. It is your personal choice
whether you use natural animal hair bristle brushes or the
Vegan-approved synthetic bristle brushes. For foundation application the flat top application brush
is best. It allows you to work the product into the brush and apply
with the “swirling ” and “buffing” motion needed to get an air-brushed
finish. Use a fluffy blush brush for application of your blush and bronzer, and a fluffy powder brush for facial silks and veils. Eye Shadow Pigment application is done with brushes
made for applying, lining and blending. You may use a sponge
application or wedge makeup sponge for blending the edges if you wish.

Bismuth is shown to cause redness, irritation and itching to women who
are sensitive to the ingredient. Bismuth oxychloride is a by-product of
lead and copper smelting. It’s properties are closely related to
arsenic. We choose not to use bismuth in our formulas for the health

I
was browsing the internet the other day and came across a well-known
and large mineral makeup company site. I am all about formulating my
bismuth free makeup and also interested in seeing the ingredients in
other mineral products. Much to my surprise, this company did not have
an INCI posted on their site. What are they hiding? Bismuth ? Parabens,
preservatives and fillers ? Hmmm. I’m just saying.
What is an INCI, you say ? Plain and simple , it is the listing of
ingredients in the product.We have an INCI on our site that is updated
regularly and when new products are added to the store. . Just like the
listings on a cereal box, the first item listed has the most amount in
the product. My mineral makeup product labels also list the ingredients
in descending order. When you buy from Free Spirit Beauty , you will
know exactly what is in the product. I am not putting anything on my
face that doesn’t have a name given on the jar label and I would never
expect my clients to settle for anything less. Honesty is not
negotiable.

Are you over ? or Under ? 40 years old that is !
- As
we get older our skin gets dryer. Drinking plenty of water is
beneficial not only for your skin, but your overall health as well.
Bottled water is not necessarily the best "green way" to go. Get a
refillable water carrier and use a Brita or Pur filter on your home
faucet. Save yourself some money ( for buying mineral makeup) and save
the landfills all the plastic that will never go away.
- Moist
skin instantly make you look younger. However, skin changes as you get
older, so remember to use a moisturizer that is appropriate for your
current skin type. A moisturizer that worked when you were in your 20's
or 30's may not achieve the same results now that you are older.If a
moisturizer makes you break out or feels greasy, you are using the
wrong product for your skin type. Many national brands have products that are age appropriate for the over 40 woman.
Using
heavy pancake makeup and powders does not work for dryer skin. Heavily
powdered skin will make your skin look dry. Keep the makeup
application light and clean. If your skin has a fairly even tone, don't
use a heavy foundation. Tinted moisturizers are a good option to
consider. Sally Hansen has a new
product . It is an illuminating primer that can actually be worn alone.
It is creamy and comes in a pump bottle. I applied it with a non latex
makeup sponge. Looks great alone or applied over your mineral makeup
for an added luminosity.
Just
as the pigment in our hair changes and it turns gray, the melanin in
our skin changes also. Amazing how things work together as we age. Be
sure that your foundation or tinted moisturizer still matches your skin
color as closely as possible. If
it does not match, take the time to find another foundation that does.
It will instantly update your look and you will actually look younger
than your years.
Women over
40 do not need to buy in to every seasonal trend that comes a long.A
little "chic" goes a long way. You will end up looking silly if you buy
up all the latest trends. Classics look fabulous on the over 40 woman.
Invest in good quality make up brushes. A couple of good brushes will make your application quicker, easier, and . more
professional looking. It is your choice whether to use natural bristle
brushes or synthetic. bristles. I have both , but my favorites are the
natural bristle, except for my concealer brush. That one is Taklon.
If
you
can afford one, schedule a consult with a professional makeup
artist. If the budget won't allow, there are some wonderful tutorials
on You Tube regarding all kinds of makeup application. A lot of these
women are makeup artists, and a lot are just like me and you....not pro
artists, but fabulous just the same.
- Finally,
invest in the basics not only for your closet, but your skin care and
makeup. A good skincare program can save you tons of tears. The
foundation, literally for all your fab looks is your skin, that is your
canvas. Putting on all the cosmetics in the world isn't going to work
if you don't take care of your skin. Always remember to dress for the
occasion, and to paraphrase Coco Chanel....when leaving home always
remove one accessory as you go out the door. Cheers !
